Yes, and it is the single easiest way to reduce what stump work costs you.
Why the Saving Is So Large
The cost of a stump grinding visit breaks down roughly into two parts. The fixed part — loading the machine, travelling, unloading, getting it into position, setting up protection, packing up afterwards — happens once, whether there is one stump or nine.
The variable part is the actual grinding, which on an ordinary garden stump is often under an hour.
So the first stump carries the whole fixed cost. Every stump after it costs close to just its grinding time. In practice six stumps frequently comes to less than twice the price of one.

Making the Most of It
- Walk the whole garden before you enquire, including the parts you do not go into. Old stumps in the corner of a hedge line or under shrubs get forgotten because they have stopped being annoying
- Include the small ones. A shrub stump or an old conifer takes minutes once the machine is there and costs very little extra
- Group them by access. If some are in the front and some at the back, say so — it affects how the machine is moved and whether one machine suits both
- Include anything you are about to create. If a tree is coming down anyway, grind that stump in the same visit
Neighbours are worth a word. If two or three properties in a row all have stumps, having them done on the same visit spreads the fixed cost across all of them. It is one of the few genuinely easy ways to get garden work done more cheaply.
What Can Slow a Multiple Job Down
- Stumps in very different positions — a machine that fits the back garden may be the wrong one for a big stump on the drive
- Different depths required. A stump under a proposed patio needs far more work than one under a lawn. Tell us which is which
- Grindings volume. Six stumps produce six holes' worth of chippings, and if they are all being taken away that is a real quantity of material. Spreading them on borders and paths on site is often the better answer
- Buried services in several places rather than one
A Note on Clearance Jobs
Where a garden is being cleared, stumps are frequently discovered under the growth rather than known about in advance. It is worth flagging at the outset that stumps are likely, so grinding can be planned into the same visit rather than needing a separate trip once everything is cut back and they become visible.

Ask Us About Your Own Garden
Walk the garden and count everything, including old stumps you have stopped noticing. A list with rough diameters gets you a much better price than one stump at a time.
